In the summer of 1998 and after seven years in the art world, Donald (Don) Taglialatella ventured out to form his own art dealership. From November 1998 to December 2002 he operated his itinerant World House Gallery, holding roving (pop up) exhibitions for the primary market artists he represented in temporary and disused spaces throughout SoHo and Chelsea in New York City. At the same time, in November of 1998 he founded his World House Editions publishing imprint. Originally located in South Orange, New Jersey, since August of 2006 we have been based in a two-story 1940s converted carriage house in the small town of Middlebury, Connecticut and are open by appointment only.
World House Gallery | World House Editions is a Dealer/Publisher. As a dealer, World House Gallery specializes in the secondary market resale of high-quality post-war and contemporary international paintings, sculpture, photographs, works on paper and prints. As a publisher, World House Editions helps to facilitate the production and realization of limited edition prints, portfolios, multiple objects, photographs and video works by an eclectic group of international artists. Our program is strictly that as a publisher – not a printer – and we collaborate closely with the artists we publish and work with a select group of contract print workshops and fabricators in the U.S. and Europe in order to realize our projects. Historically speaking, Don Taglialatella is acknowledged as the leading expert and dealer in the United States on the art of The Cobra group (1948-1951). Artists from the group, many which he had personal and working relationships with, include, but are not limited to: Pierre Alechinsky, Else Alfelt, Karel Appel, Eugène Brands, Constant (Nieuwenhuys), Corneille, Christian Dotremont, William Gear, Stephen Gilbert, Henry Heerup, Egill Jacobsen, Asger Jorn, Lucebert, Carl-Henning Pedersen, Reinhoud, Anton Rooskens, Shinkichi Tajiri and Theo Wolvecamp. His close association and working relationship with the Estate of Asger Jorn and the Museum Jorn, dating back to the Spring of 1991, is one that remains extremely important to him as an art dealer and art historian.
World House Gallery | World House Editions has been a member of the International Fine Print and Drawings Association (IFPDA) and the Confédération Internationale des Négociants en Oeuvres d’Art (CINOA) in good standing since 2010. Don Taglialatella sits on the Board of Directors of the non-profit Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk, Connecticut. He is also a Trustee of the Hartford Art School Endowment, Inc., of the Hartford Art School at the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Connecticut and is the Chairman of their Art Collections and Donations Committee. Additionally, he is a member of the Association of Print Scholars. From 1996 to 1999 he was a member of the Committee for Visual Arts at the University of Delaware and besides advising the University of Delaware’s Visual Arts Program, he was instrumental in developing new practical curriculum for students in the Art History and Fine Arts Departments. He has lectured at the University of Delaware, the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts, the Mattatuck Museum and other institutions and has arranged museum exhibitions for artists such as Jane Dickson, Graciela Sacco, Jeanne Silverthorne and Peter Halley. He was an important financial and logistical supporter to the Argentine Pavillion and Graciela Sacco’s 2001 showing at the Venice Biennale. He has written on The Cobra group, Arman, Reinhoud, Asger Jorn, Vito Acconci and other artists. He graduated in May of 1990 from the University of Delaware with a B.A. in Art History and did undergraduate work on Marcel Duchamp, David Smith and Post-War European and American painting and sculpture. He was a Curatorial Apprentice at the University of Delaware’s Museum of Art for his entire four years at the U of D.
