Alix Lambert in “Sous Réserves” | Musée des beaux-arts de La Chaux-de-Fonds |
26 June 2016 – 9 October 2016
Museum storage is the subject of many fantasies: We easily imagine sleeping treasures forgotten by experts blinded by their a priori, or unmentionable works such as the “underworld” of libraries of old. In fact, often reluctantly, many outstanding works of museum collections are rarely exposed, but for more mundane reasons: lack of space and material means to regularly renew the attachment of permanent facilities, or to protect fragile works such as paper, that prolonged exposure to natural light irremediably alter. Other reasons are less obvious: some works are for example isolated in collections, not directly related to the main priority consistent sets presented in the rooms of the permanent collection. By disrupting this perspective, this exhibition thus makes first justice to some of these singular works, bulky or fragile, giving them once all the space they deserve.
